Summary

The minimum inside area for laying hens is one square meter for five hens.

Difference

The EU Regulation 2092/91 allows six laying hens per one square meter.

Justification

More area was required before the EU Regulation entered in to force in 2000. More area inside is preferable due to the long and cold winter period when it is necessary to keep the animals indoors.

EU Regulation

Annex VIII. Minimum livestock surface areas indoor and outdoors
