Debio is a private certifier, which certifies according to the national organic regulation, which is based on the EU Regulation EC 834/2007. Besides, it has own standards for organic aquaculture, which will be in force until the new EU Regulation on organic aquaculture enters into force on July, 2010. Debio also has private standards on organic forestry and wild harvesting.

Debio is a certifier and a national umbrella organisation for farmers, processors, importers, consumers, envrionmental and animal protection organisations interested in organic production

DEBIO had its own private organic standards, also for organic farming and processing until 2005, where these standards were replaced by "Økologiforskriften" the Norwegian Organic Order based on the organic EU regulation. (see also Control body, Debio, Norway, 2009)

Comments on logo and the certification and inspection system for the standard

Debio certifies organic products, not only according to its own standards on aquaculture and forestry but also according to the governmental order on organic farming and processing corresponding to the EU regulations on organic farming, processing and import. Debio has been appointed the only Norwegian certifier of organic products by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet), which is the competent authority responsible for the control of organic products. 10 Fish feed supplier companies, 9 aquaculture producers, 3 fish abbatoirs and 2 foresters are certified according to the Debio private standards.
