Certification Systems Overview: Overview
Certification by country:Switzerland
Comments:The link is to a website (in German) of the competent authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, and it links to a list of the organic control bodies, the Swiss Organic regulation and various application and guidance documents. Overview: Switzerland is on the approved third country list of the EU and thus organic products produced according to the Swiss Organic Ordinance are accepted as certified organic, when exported to the EU, up to now with control certificates for each consignment. The Ministry of Agriculture supervises and approves the organic control bodies and manages equivalence of the Swiss Organic Ordinance with the EU organic regulation. There are five approved organic control bodies, 2 working on national level only, and three with national as well as international activity. Supervision of the implementation of the Organic Ordinance is also performed by the "Kantonschemiker" (the food safety departments of each federal state) and these entities will be involved in case of investigation of fraud, etc.
