Summary

Straw used for animal bedding must come from organic farms. In the case of non-availability it must be purchased from low intensity cultivation systems. (NL standards on production, Part B.1. Animal husbandry 1.)

Difference

The NATURLAND standard contains further requirements. The EU Regulation 2092/91 does not require the bedding material to come from organic or low intensity sources.

Justification

To avoid contamination with harmful substances. Most types of animals will eat part of the bedding material.

EU Regulation
