Summary

The hives must be constructed using mainly natural materials and substances. Harmful types of glue, painting or varnish is prohibited. (Bioland production standards, 4.10.2.2 Hives)

Difference

The BIOLAND standard is similar but more precise in explicitly excluding the use of chemical synthetic substances for the construction of bee hives.

Justification

To avoid contamination with objectionable substances.
